RugbyWA and the WAJRU embraced the growth of Sevens Rugby recently at the RugbyWA U15’s Sevens tournament held at Britannia Oval.
Sevens Rugby is set to make its first appearance at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, in the men’s and women’s competitions and the tournament was a great opportunity for young rugby players to sample the sport.
15 teams competed with most from the WAJRU competition and included participant’s who’s preferred sports are rugby league, soccer and Australian rules football.
The teams played four games in the round-robin competition before the best performing sides battled it out for the Cup, Plate and Bowl titles.
Cup Champions were Palmyra who defeated Perth Bayswater 25-21 in the dying seconds of the game.
Southern Lions took out the Plate Championships, defeating Joondalup 38-19 with a dominating second half of rugby.
It was a thrilling game in the Bowl Championship with Wests Subiaco victorious over UWA 19-5, courtesy of some fantastic long range tries.
