Code Of Conduct For Match Officials
Like Players and Coaches all Officials are bound by these ARU Code of Conduct and are required each season to sign a registraion form to say they will abide by this Code of Conduct.
All participants are entitled to:
- participate at a level appropriate to their level of development;
- skilled and qualified leadership;
- a safe playing environment;
- enjoy Rugby Union activities; and
- be treated with dignity.
The actions of referees and officials can profoundly affect the safety of Rugby Union, the players attitudes towards the sport, their enjoyment of the game and their continued participation.
Officials should:
- Be consistent, objective, courteous and helpful;
- Be a model of good sporting behaviour;
- Keep informed of and exercise sound officiating practices;
- Understand the growth and development of children;
- Ensure that the "spirit of the game" is not lost by over pedantic interpretations of the laws;
- Compliment participants on their efforts;
- Discourage unsporting behaviour and promote respect for all participants; and
- Not use offensive or discriminatory language or do anything which may demean another person on the ground of race, colour or national/ethnic origin.
