2018 was a fantastic year for the Brothers Club as it received the “Champion Club” award by Rugby WA. 2019 is shaping as another big year as the club looks to continue to improve both on and off the field.

Senior President Anthony Wall is excited to announce Sheldon Tarawa as its Premier Grade captain for 2019.

Sheldon has had a major impact at the club since joining in 2017, his leadership and experience was obvious right from the start to the coaching group which saw him appointment as vice-captain in his inaugural year.

Premier Grade Head Coach Dave Wells was excited when asked about Sheldon’s appointment.

“Sheldon is a high level player that significantly influences the outcome of a game, but more importantly, he is a good leader and has the ability to bring his team mates along with him."

"He has the respect of the playing group, coaching staff and management as well as being a very popular figure with the Brothers supporters."

Not one for big speeches, Sheldon is more at home leading by example.

“I’m honoured to lead the Brothers club and follow in the footsteps of previous captain such as Johann Louw, Tamati Timoko and Llewelyn Lottering. Brothers are a young and proud club that has a fantastic culture and a very vocal and supportive fan base” Tarawa said.

Brothers have strengthened their coaching set up over the off season as well with Dave Wells returns as Premier Grade Head Coach and is joined by last year’s Reserve Grade coach Adam Munro.

Wells outlined Munro's ability to be a talented young coach that has impressed over the past few seasons.

“The players respond well to him and he adds a lot of value to our set up. His call up to the top side was inevitable and he is a Head coach in the making, Wells explained."

Adam is the current Western Australian State U15s coach and is also heavily involved in the Rugby WA elite academy, where he works with the next generation of high level players. His addition to the premier grade set up is a significant one.

Brother’s legend Graham Jones is again on board to manage the Premier Grade team, ‘Jonesy’ is one of the most respected rugby figures in Western Australia, he always strives to push the players and coaches to new levels of professionalism and has been integral in the clubs successes over recent years.

Dan Jones is also returning as the Premier Grade analyst along with plying his trade with an internship at RugbyWA and the Western Force.

Antonio Gerber returns as Reserve Grade coach for his second season, Antonio is an aspirational coach that is always on hand to develop his skills and leadership.

Antonio also leads the clubs Future Prems Program alongside Clive King as team manager.

Katy Flyger who has recently purchased Brighton Beach Physiotherapy clinic returns as Head Physio.

Flyger is one of the most experienced rugby physios in WA,  is incredibly important to the Joondalup Brothers Rugby Club as she is working tirelessly in treating the players along with taking the time to mentor our younger physios as well.

Third grade coach for Joondalup will be Will Harrington with Gary Osborne as his assistant.

For another season Ken Williams will return as fourth grade coach in 2019 with Alan Roa and Rob Chappell on hand to manage the teams.

2019 shapes as a big year for the club, with the club room extension almost complete, 2 new change rooms, and new physio rooms and amenities there is a real buzz around the place. Blending the returning players and exciting new recruits the Brothers are certain to make an impact both on and off the field.
